Kapa Haka 4

Kapa haka 24/3/17

This week we had fun at kapa haka but i'm still sad that there is no cultural fest this year but oh well. We sang Aotearoa and had fun and I felt happy about kapa haka today.  The leadership trait i showed is Resilient because even though i was sad about cultural fest I still was Resilient.

[English Translation:]

No matter if you’re near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you come from
We’ll fight for your freedom

I am the mountain, you are the sea flowing toward me
You are the river that runs through me, I am her she is me
Created from dust and sand, born to lead this land

Where we come from we were made to be strong
Our legacy will carry on
And if a piece of home
Resonates in your soul
Your journey will take you
Where you belong

No matter if you’re near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you come from
We’ll fight for your freedom

[RIA HALL:]
The heritage of this land is deep, we are it’s legacy
I am her warrior, I fight for thee, we have the victory
Born from blood and tears, I am stronger than fear

[TROY KINGI:]
We strive to move to our destiny
we practice more than what we preach
and if a piece of home resonates in your soul
your journey will take you where you belong

No matter if you’re near or far

Buddy Program 4

Buddy Program 4

Today we had buddy program and I did planning for week 10 because of the year 7s on camp we can't do it in week 9. I have done this with Jade and Solani. Here is the plan.
The leadership trait i showed is Active thinker because we couldn't do buddy program i was able to be strong and just do it.

Information about the Year 1 Unit

Introduction (Reading)
To introduce students to the concept of animal habitats, read them a book such as "My Very First Book of Animal Homes," by Eric Carle or the "Animal Homes Lap Book," by Jodene Lynn Smith. Make sure that students understand how different animals live in different habitats and ask them to guess which habitats common animals live in, such as whales or fish (water/ocean), monkeys or birds (rainforest/trees), etc.

Instruction
Explain to students that animals have different homes that they live in. Set out two boxes, one with a photo of an ocean and one with a photo of a rainforest. Then give each student the picture of an animal, all of which live in either the ocean or in the rainforest, and ask them to place their animal into the appropriate box. Possible pictures include those of whales, seals, fish, octopi, sharks, monkeys, toucans, tigers, and jaguars. Students should be able to differentiate between animals that make their homes in the water and those that make their homes in trees and on dry land.

Group members: Brook, Jade and Solani

WALT: I can effectively teach juniors about Games without equipment

Introduction (How will we introduce the book or use the book?)
5minutes
We will tell them the game we are playing and the rules. Our first game will be Simon says and then Duck duck goose and the kid are good they can choose but if they can’t agree then we will play tricky tag.
Main part of the lesson (What questions will we ask the students? What activity will they do?)
15 minutes
Play the games and we will be playing are
  1. Simon says
  2. Duck duck goose
  3. Free choice (Let the kids choose)
  4. Or tricky tag if the kids can’t agree.
Conclusion (How will we end our lesson?)
5 minutes
We will tell them how good they were and maybe let them chose a game if we have time. (let's hope they are good)

C2. Give to your family: Prepare 3 formal three course meals including the menu, cooking and presentation of the meal

C2. Give to your family: Prepare 3 formal three-course meals including the menu, cooking and presentation of the meal.

For the starter, I made garlic bread and the first step was to...
get the butter and crushed garlic and put the butter is the microwave for 20 seconds and we tried crushing it but it was too hard so we put it in for 10 more seconds and then added some crushed garlic and mixed. After we made the garlic butter we cut the bread and put the butter and then cooked it for 5 minutes and then we ate it it was yum.

For the main course, we made Mac and Cheese the first step was to...
The ingredients we used were Milk, bacon, flour, red onion, butter, macaroni and cheese. The resources we use were- knife, chopping board, frying pan and two pots. the first thing we did was get one of the pans and filled it with water and set it to 7 degrees. Then we chopped the butter and put it in one of the pots and melted it 7 degrees and then cut up the bacon and put it in the frying pan and also cut up the onion in the pan and set it to 5 degrees.
After we add the milk to the butter and could not stop storing for longer than 20 seconds (my arms got tired). Then we added the macaroni to the hot water and stored the water and kept and eye on everything. After we finished making it we tipped it into a bowl and my mum stored it so it wouldn't go everywhere.
I was first finished (yum)
Then we made dessert and it was divine. We made a 60-second dessert there were 3 steps 1 mix we mixed the milk with the chocolate, 2 Heat we put it in the microwave for 60-seconds and the 3rd step was to eat and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Kapa Haka 3

Kapa Haka 17/3/17

Today we had Kapa haka and almost every year 7/8 had a cold. we started with Aotearoa and we tried without the words but we didn't do the best (it is easier with the words). Then we sang hirrymia and that was fun we also learnt the actions to hirrymia again (From last year).  The leadership trait i showed is Resilient because we all had colds and we were coughing I just cheeped going.

Buddy program 3

Buddy Program 17/3/17

Today Tash and I had buddy program and we wore teaching games the first group we had we played over, under and the second game we played was rats and rabbits but they couldn't play it very well so we played Simon says and they played that with my excitement than all the other games we played with them. The leadership trait i showed is Goal focused because I was focused on playing all the games with the kids.

Leadership Article

In writing I have been learning to:
  • use all basic punctuation independently
  • attempt more complex punctuation (eg semicolons, colons, parentheses)

I have been especially focussing on using parentheses and commas. I have highlighted these in green where I have used them as well as other punctuation that I changed because it was used incorrectly. Here is a piece of my writing that shows this.

Brooks Leadership Draft 28/2/17
Head Peer Mediator

Leadership is a skill of being able to motivate people/teams to work towards a goal. The 6 leadership traits are Integrity, motivational, trustworthy, resilient, goal focused and Active thinker. My key leadership role this year is Head Peer Mediator and my role is to make sure that peer mediators show up on time.

Motivational is when you encourage someone to do something. Bill gates is and great role model of this because he motivated his workers and himself to work hard and get the job done. The best thing to have in a motivational person is because if you felt moopy then a person will come and motivate you to feel happy. You can demonstrate by not feeling like it is not fun, it doesn't have to be fun you just have to act happier so kids will come and help you. Being motivational is great but another trait is being Trustworthy.

Trustworthy is great because you need to be a trustworthy to not tell anyone. Sir Edmund Hillary was trustworthy because he said he would climb mt Everest and he did so he kept his word. This is important because if they can't trust you they won't want to come to you for help. I can demonstrate this by keeping the problem to myself and not telling anyone. All the leadership traits are important and one of them is Integrity.

Integrity is a great skill to have of being honest and fair. A leader that has shown this is Bill Gates because he was honest and fair when he was playing with his little sister when he was young. This is very important because you have, to be honest and fair and not take sides even if you know the person is right. I will demonstrate this by not taking sides when I am on duty, and I won't say oh yeah that sounds right so that is right

In order to be a good Head Peer Mediator, I need to demonstrate effective leadership traits and work hard to do these well. So being a leader is not about bossing people around it is about working as a team and not taking sides, and showing all the leadership traits I am going to be a good Head Peer Mediator who is an effective leader.

Games with minimal or no equipment.

Games with minimal or no equipment.

In PE we have been participating in a variety of games that require little or no equipment.
Below is the Matrix which shows our progression in this unit of learning.

Screen Shot 2017-03-12 at 12.32.06 PM.png

The table below shows my understanding of games with minimal or no equipment.
(Fill this table in, in as much detail as possible. )

Examples of Games that need minimal or no equipment.
What equipment would we usually need to play these games.
Why do we play games with minimal or no equipment?
  • Tricky tag
  • Predator
  • Cat and mouse
  • Battleships
  • Hunger games
  • None
  • None
  • None
  • Cones
  • None
So if we don't have time to go get gear then just play a game with minimal or no equipment.

My Strengths.
Some things that I have done well during this unit of learning are Playing any game without fighting because then the game goes faster and everyone is happier.

My Next Steps.

Some things I could improve on when playing games with minimal or no equipment are at least use cone's to do mark outs  Because Then everyone knows the boundaries.

Kapa Haka 2

Kapa Haka 10/3/17

This week we had Kapa Haka and sang ka waiata and we also learnt more of Aotearoa and that was fun. We aren't doing cultural fest this year because it is every 2 years and this is 2017 and
cultural fest was last year so this year we don't have cultural fest so instead we just practise songs and it is fun. The leadership trait i showed is Integrity because I was sad there was no cultural fest i still showed Integrity.

Peer Mediation 8/3/17

Today we had Peer Mediation and it was fun first we walked around the school and helped out one of the problems was banging on the fence, another was a kid thought he was playing but everyone else didn't know he was playing, and the other one was following the kid with the ball and wanted to play so the compromised and said he can play tomorrow. The leadership trait i showed is Motivational because I was able to get the kids to play tougher.

Kapa Haka 3/3/17

Today we did Kapa haka and performed 3 songs and all wore in maori and my favorite song we did was Aotearoa and we learned a little bit more of Aotearoa and song really well. The leadership trait i showed is Resilient because I was strong because It was hard to learn the song.

Here are the lyrics

Buddy program 1

Buddy Program 3/3/17

Buddy program was fun today it was my first time teaching kids games and having fun with little kids. Warisha and I showed little kids game that we have played, the games that we played today wore, Color tag, Color and shapes, Tricky tag, Chase the tail and Cat and mouse. Personally I think our last group was the best because they listened and played nicely and had fun tougher. The leadership trait i showed is Resilient because the groups were hard to handle.

Square numbers to 100 and their matching square roots.

In Maths we have been learning:

Square numbers to 100 and their matching square roots.
This is part of our basic facts knowledge.
It is important to just know these as we can use this knowledge in other areas of maths.

Here is a link to our online modelling book. ( LINK YOUR MODELLING BOOK HERE)

Here are the IXL screenshots that show evidence of my learning.

My next learning step in Maths is To focuses on the task and not race my friends.
